It has been a while since I have had a chance to update my website over the last few months since I came back from my adventure in Australia. There has been a lot going on, I have been slowly collecting, editing, and releasing new photo galleries from those previous events. Ultimately between working full time and early mornings at Atlantis, then working Waterworld shows in the evening. The time I spend at home is just a quick 4-5 hour nap before I get back up at 4:30 am to do it all over again. Any freetime I may come across, I put straight into finishing my new Matrix freeride ski. This schedule is starting to slow down(thank god), so expect more updates following this trip to come now that I might have some time to actually finish them all for you guys before surf slam!
I am currently sitting in the San Francisco airport waiting for my layover flight to Seattle, Washington to attend the 2012 Grayland Open amateur freeride contest. Last year I drove all the way up(24 hrs) with Mike and Christian Young. At the event I took the initiative to become the event announcer to help call out the tricks, rider locations, and time fame left in their heats for the judges and to help the spectators understand what was going on during the contest. I did not expect to have that job but the feedback from everyone at the event was super positive and appreciated.
This is why I am leaving my ski behind this year and making it a priority right now to fly up to the event and hopefully be able to do the same thing for them.I am bringing a few dozen pairs of my new signature series floating “Gomer Bomb” sunglasses from Bomber Eyewear to sell at the event along with a few to give away to the podium winners. Hydro-Turf also chipped in and gave me a ton of stickers and piranha turf key chains to give away at the event as well. On Friday the 17th I will be assisting my friend and fellow pro freerider Zack Bright with a freeride clinic for all the riders at the event who would like to participate. Like last year, If I am able to find a ski to use, I will be competiing in the motorsurf race and sickest trick contest as well.
In a few hours I will be landing in Seattle to meet up with my brother in freeride, Tanner Thomas. Tanner and I will drive from Seattle straight west to Grayland to get ourselves and the event organization situated.
Again I am happy to be able to attend and contribute to this cool event that supports our new/up and coming freeriders.
Expect more updates including a recap of this event to come before I leave for The 2012 Blowsion SurfSlam event September 3rd in Pacific City, Oregon!
